Commercial Construction Project Estimator – remote

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Commercial Construction Project Estimator to join our client's team in Hilliard, Ohio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating commercial construction projects, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and the ability to prepare clear, persuasive, and competitive proposals.
  
This is not just a number-crunching role — the estimator will work closely with company leadership to scope projects accurately, support preconstruction strategy, and help shape how the organization delivers high-performance results in the field.
  
  • Remote - Local to Columbus, OH, and available for frequent site visits.
  
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Develop detailed quantity take-offs, material lists, labor requirements, and subcontractor quotes.
  • Use advanced Excel functions (formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, charts) to analyze historical data, track productivity benchmarks, and present estimating data clearly.
  • Draft and format professional, client-focused proposals that clearly define scopes of work and strengthen competitive positioning.
  • Collaborate with leadership, project managers, and field teams to validate scopes, define project durations, and ensure estimates align with real-world execution.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options to improve project profitability and efficiency.
  • Maintain cost databases for material, labor, and equipment pricing.
  • Monitor industry trends, market pricing, and vendor relationships to ensure competitive bids.
  • Support contract negotiations and project award processes.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess conditions and verify scope details.
  
Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience as an estimator in commercial construction.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP, data analysis tools, formatting).
  • Proven ability to write detailed, persuasive proposals with clear scopes of work.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, CSI MasterFormat, and self-perform labor strategies.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
