We have a remote contract opportunity for a Product Support Designer who will be designing and producing print materials such as product sampling materials and marketing collateral, ensuring that all design elements are brand compliant. EST hours are preferred.
What you will be doing:
- Handle layout and page design expertly, paying close attention to the alignment of text, images, and cohesive and consistent branding across multiple pieces of collateral.
- Create brand-compliant infographics or illustrative designs within layouts, when needed, to enhance visual impact, ensuring the additions complement overall design aesthetics.
- Comprehend content and context thoughtfully to ensure that design choices enhance the overall message, while maintaining consistency across a series of materials.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal team members and project owners to solve challenges and create successful outcomes, providing compelling rationale behind layout and composition decisions.
- Quickly acclimate to processes and procedures.
- Manage time efficiently across multiple tasks and projects.
- Complete work with a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Familiarity with Basecamp and SmartSheet.
We are not looking for are portfolios heavy with splashy images with little text, catalogs (repetitive pages with pictures/labels/prices), wedding invites (simple templated-looking designs), book cover illustrations, and other primarily one-off or illustration/conceptual design type of work.
What makes this work unique:
- Because content is rarely fully complete at work start, this role requires patience, problem-solving, and the ability to help build a compelling marketing story with inputs from a copywriter and the project owner over a fixed timeline as the piece evolves.
- Extreme attention to detail is needed, as changes over time can affect the context of a page, section, the overall piece, or a series of collateral.
- If the content does not make sense to you (within reason), it will likely not make sense to a customer who may be reviewing it for the first time. Candidate must be willing to thoughtfully approach what they are creating with a focus on information organization and clarity in communication, written and visual.
What we are looking for:
- A portfolio and resume that shows heavy experience with long form print layout: brochures, booklets, reports, mixed text and image composition, and series/campaign work with complexity is what we seek, because that type of work has a level of critical thinking and problem-solving involved that this candidate will need to possess.
- We need someone who has been in the trenches of multi-campaign series work and knows the drill of multi-component, moving-target marketing work.
- Expertise in Adobe InDesign.
- Veteran experience in a production environment where structured product storytelling happens across a series of pieces, long-form and short-form.
- Portfolio with at least 4-5 examples of print collateral in a series that shows complexity in layout solutions.
- Proficient skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, with the ability to create and incorporate infographics or illustrations as needed
- Strong knowledge of print production processes, including file setup and output.
- Excellent file organization skills, ensuring assets are easily accessible and usable for team collaboration
- Strong problem-solving skills in design and layout, with conceptual abilities.
